Forty years ago, the computing systems needed to control a spacecraft required a large room and a multimillion dollar budget; today a smart phone has more computing power. The advances in automobiles over the same time period are much less dramatic. Applying current technology to urban mobility can improve safety, convenience, and energy efficiency.
